Gorgas Hospital - Ancon, Canal
Zone
This is no longer a hospital since the treaty between Panama and the US was implemented.
It houses offices and a cancer research center. I did notice when I was in
Panama in February that the old morgue is still there and still says "MORGUE"!
The concrete steps lead up to what was Ancon Hospital when Col. Gorgas was in Panama.
The addition in the background is an addition that was added in 1962-63.
Aerial View of Gorgas Hospital
Complex
This is a better overall view. When the Americans first took over the Canal Zone,
Ancon Hospital had been built by the French. They were wooden buildings.
Gradually the Gorgas Hospital in this picture was built. It is in a beautiful
location with beautiful views. The French nuns that were the nurses planted a
wonderful garden of tropical plants. Most of it is still there.
