Comments I am so happy to have had the pleasure of this and other sites to read about so many things that I remember, but forgot the names of! The rush of memories is like going back. I was born in Gorgas Hospital in 1950. I left CZ in '66, and it broke my heart. I have talked about it so much, but have forgotten so much. There is really no way to describe the life there, either. You just had to be there!

Comments I am trying to locate a classmate from 1st grade. I recently read an article in the Washington Post which has motivated me after 32 years. I don't have much to go on, but I will put it on the table to see what you can remember or suggest. Her name is Leilani Snyder.

We attended first grade at Balboa Elementary in the Canal Zone in the spring of 1968. Her parents were American Citizens and her father worked for the Pan Canal Company. Her mother was active in the community theater and was in "Westside Story" in 1968. They lived in Balboa, next to St. Mary's on La Boca Rd. Leilani was probably born in the US somewhere between 1960-1962. She would be 39 now. I saw that she has visited the CZ Brats web page and signed in as a graduate of Balboa High School although I have my doubts she ever attended school there. She has not shown up in any of the yearbooks from BHS (77-79).

During dads brief tour in Panama, Leilani and I were two peas in a pod, she was my first sweetheart. When stationed back to the US, I swore to her that one day "when I grew up" I would search the world for her, and thus that is what I am doing now. There is something inside me that needs to know what has become of this little girl. I am writing in the hope that you may have memories of her parents or remember a family in Balboa around 1968 with a little blond girl named Leilani. Any recommendations as to how to proceed in my search, or any help with my search would be greatly appreciated. I feel my strongest leads would be those through anyone associated with the school system or local theater groups. I know there is some out there that has that one memory that will help me with this search. Even if you have no memories of her, I would appreciate you sharing this letter with anyone you are still in contact with from the Canal Zone.

Comments Cerveza Panama siting: I was driving home last week down Whitlock Avenue (Hwy 120) in Marietta and pulled into a small beer and wine store called Michael's to purchace some cold beer after a hard days work and to my surprise they stock Cerveza Panama. Comments Hello, What a great site..I spent 1970-1974 in the Canal Zone..I lived on Ft.Clayton..824B Ft Clayton to be exact.I lived just down the street from the Ft.Clayton movie theater,and just blocks away from Reeder Gym.I went to Ft.Clayton Elem.,then on to Curundu Jr.High. I remember those years with great fondness.When I found out about this site,I couldn't wait to visit.After seeing all those pictures of the schools,and other site,I wished that time could go backwards for awhile.. Thanks to those of you who put this all togwther.There was something quite magical about Panama.

Comments Just saw "The Taylor of Panama" last night. The pictures of "the Bridge of the Americas", and of Gamboa, made it worth the $9.00, otherwise skip it.

Hanging out of mango trees and fishing below the Miraflores: riding my bike next to the troops on their tanks and exchanging fishing tales: catching aligators, iguanas, bushmasters,vipers, ferdelances, & boas, kodamundes, monkeys etc. all in our back yard: delivering the panamanian two page foldout after school with the last tally of casualties from Vietnam: Sister Mary Celeste and her ear twisting skills (St. Mary's in Balboa): Dinners at FT.Amador:the lefts at Rio de Mar: the cool breezes of El Valle: David: Boca del Toros: diving in the San Blas Islas:the pagentry of "Holy Week" in Panama City and the small villages throughout Panama: tostones, empanadas, tamarind, ginups & paella w/iguana:and last but not least the people:the heartbeat of Panama, mi corazon.

I just wanted to congratulate all of you for this beutiful site, and to thank you for loving my country as much as I do. I believe that all who were born or had the opportunity to live there have a history that no government, yours or mine, can take away.
