so nice to visit this site. I
always read of friends I have not heard of for awhile. I read about people's life in the
Canal Zone and enjoy when they share there life's in CZ. Anyway life for me in the Canal
Zone was as follows. I was born in Gorgas and lived in Balboa. My father was a Canal Zone
police and my Mom was a teacher. I went to St. Mary's for elelmentary and junior high,
living on El Prado. School was mostly competing in track and flag football against Balboa
Elementary, Gamboa and Los Rios, won all those games, track's competion was Balboa mostly
and Howard Elementary. Evening activities where ringolivio, almond fights with the
Rineharts, Harps, Corigans and Huesom's. Christmas time brought us the famous wars for the
bragging rights of having the largest christmas tree pile for the annual bonfire. Then
there was the Balboa Rams. Serious football. Mostly great games against Christobal Tigers,
Kiwani Kolts, Paraiso Bengals, Albrook Jets, Clayton Cowboys, Ft Davis Raiders and Haword
Eagles. This was peewee, lightweight and heavyweight's. Coached mostly by coach Dare &
Gare. Then it was off to Curundu Jr. High. Life was mostly hanging out with Jerry Curtis,
Adam Mitts, Marco Preito and Raul Quintero. Lot's of Friday night's at the owl show, wed.
nite at the balboa pool and clubhouse afterwards. After that came BHS and all the
traditions of BHS. Bulldog football, causeway, french cut, Cocoli bridge, swing bridge,
chiva chiva, observatory, spinning club, the chicken coop, yaght club starting on thursday
night, el rancho, VFW, Palmar, Coronado, rocky falls, sink hole in Santa Clara, Charlie's
beach house, cayuco races, Jerry's motorcross races, which took us to all parts of Panama,
Boquete, Chiriqui, Los Santos and Costa Rica. after school like most of us I had to leave
( kicking and screaming the whole way ) and moved to the states. Even after all these
years I have kept in touch with most of my childhood friends and get together as much as
possible, mostly at the reunion's. I must say life has been good to me. Thank you Canal
Zone. |
